And so, I find myself returned to the Admiral's bosom... A scant few changes, here and there, yet still incompetence persists. A situation common to most kingdoms, it seems.

Tell me, am I to expect the same ritual humiliation as persisted during my previous visitation? I have so missed the opportunity to awake and discover I possess another's body or gills where none should be... Still, some prices are worth paying - just. A lesson, I am sure, which shall be sorely tested before my time here is at an end, once more.

[And there it ends... Of course, being Morrigan, she's no idea her Claudia Black-alike voice might be mistaken for certain previous residents aboard ship.]

Incompetent, perhaps. Bickering, certainly. But a conspiracy against you? I think not... Nor do I have reason to misinform you. There was little co-ordination between wardens when last I visited and it seems just as rare now. They focus on their own problems, Morgana, not a fruitless quest to undermine you.

Nevertheless, I know not this Admiral's motives. I know only what I shall seek to do.

As wardens, we are offered whatever may be desired most. Unless consumed by spite for the position, I see no reason why you, yourself, could not graduate to the role of teaching another. Thus, securing the alteration of fate you most wish for...

If, of course, you find this to be a step in compromise too far? I will not disrespect you for it. Acceptance of it is, however, the most obvious path of action before you.

No, Morgana... I think you would improve the system for others, by way of having been its captive.

[Spoken very matter-of-factly. Perhaps even a little bit almost motherly.]

Think of it as a form of subterfuge for the better.

There is no way to improve a system ruled by someone who cannot be swayed. Or touched. [Or killed.]

It doesn't matter, anyway. I'm as trapped now as the day I arrived.

On the contrary... 'Tis rare, indeed, for the one sitting upon throne to be wholly in charge. This is not where true power most often resides. A crown, by itself, means nothing. Aside, of course, from giving assassins a target.

Here, 'tis especially so. This Admiral seems to dictate little outside of paired combinations. We wardens squabble and bicker, but sometimes... Sometimes seek agreement by consensus. 'Tis there where you can make most difference.

Certainly a great deal more than in your present role, no?

No. [She's sharp.] It doesn't matter what you agree or don't agree on, in the end he's the only one that can affect this ship. He's the only one that can do fill deals or release inmates. He's the only one that chooses to keep us alive or let us die, and I certainly don't trust him.

The Admiral functions as little more than a keeper of the gate. 'Tis not they who administers the rules... Merely observes our activities.

If you wish to make the stays of others more pleasant, then you must work to change the system from within. Unless you offer an alternative?

Has it been so long since you've been here? He's more than a gatekeeper. He does nothing he doesn't wish to.

Were that so, the famed invasions and seizure of this Admiral's control would not have been possible.

They may be many things, Morgana, but omnipotent - or even watchful - are not among them.

Oh, I'm sorry. There must have been some upheaval that I missed. Some angry warden or inmate must have taken over permanently while I was distracted.
